What is a UIFN?
UIFN stands for Universal Free Phone Number. UIFNs let companies to advertise just one number that can be called from multiple countries. UIFN service is regulated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and UIFNs can only be used through countries that are a part of the UIFN program. Today, around 50 countries currently participate in the UIFN program.
How does a UIFN work?
A universal toll free number begins with the "00800" prefix followed by 8 digits. To connect to a UIFN number, a caller must dial a unique 3-digit international access code for each country. A UK caller, for example, would use the following UIFN format:
- (00) +800 XXXX-XXXX
How much does a UIFN cost?
The ITU charges each UIFN provider between about 200 – 300 USD to set up a UIFN number (a one-time fee), plus an annual maintenance fee. UIFN subscription fees are also charged for each country you wish to include in your coverage.
